Eurovision 2008

I have just finished watching a few minutes of the 2008 Eurovision song contest, hosted by Serbia  (having won the last edition with Marija Šerifović’s Molitva). As the Museum of Broadcast Communication puts it, while its cultural merits are dubious, the event has become a television landmark, with estimated 600 million viewers all over the world. But not in Italy, where almost nobody is aware of its existence, and Italy is missing as a participant since 1997 (but there are two songs in Italian this year, since San Marino is at its first appearance and Switzerland is represented by italian-speaking Paolo Meneguzzi).

You can follow it on the official site – the final evening will be broadcast Saturday 24 May – 21:00 CET.
