Frogs, crosses and licenses

A sculpture representing a crucified frog, on display at a museum in Bolzano, has been strongly criticized by the President of the Regional Council, who required its removal and obtained support to his request from the Vatican.

The work, created by Martin Kippenberger, shows a green frog on a cross with a mug of beer in its hand and is said to be a self-portrait of the artist, illustrating human angst.

The italian blogosphere is blossoming with outraged comments, lamenting the attack to freedom of expression.

...and all this fuss could have been avoided if the Roman Catholic Church had just protected their brand with the appropriate Creative Commons license:

No Derivative Works. You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.
