While I am not a fan of Italian Obamism (i.e. making reference to the Obama victory as a motivational resource for politics in Italy), Liberazione published yesterday a report about the situation with Renato Soru’s government in Sardinia, highlighting both lights (radical and effective measures to protect the unique environment) and shadows (a conflict of interests of his own, obviously dwarfed by Berlusconi’s one).
But why should regional issues being of interest for the whole Country?
As the Democratic Party continues to fail in finding an effective voice and Veltroni’s role as the leader of the opposition is questioned, there is growing attention to those personalities who seem able to embody a credible promise of an alternative to the current government in Italy. And the Sardinian government has provided some signals in this direction.
Liberazione, outside the sphere of influence of the Democratic Party, was eager to show this connection and found an engaging title for it – Yes, ajò (where the latter means "let’s go" in Sardinian, as Italians have learnt from Nico – a character in a fortunate series of sketches by Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo). It’s worth a read, if you understand Italian.
