Cool bugs

There is an interesting side effect of the expected broad success of the iPhone: becoming mainstream, like iPods (and unlike Macs) and thus making an old assumption fall:

no one bothers to write a virus for MacOs, all hackers chase after Windows.

It could be some sort of reality check for Apple’s reputation of good quality in software: in the long run, security will be a strong issue  for a flexible device, meant to access complex services. A security researcher affirms on his blog that he has already found a way to identify potential vulnerabilities, through the embedded web browser.

I must confess that I find this entertaining, mostly because I have a negative bias towards Apple. I have a lot of  rational reasons for this attitude, but I suspect that it all goes back to the fact that Apple products are so strictly related to being cool, a skill I never managed to master.

    Hi Fabio,
I did feel the same about the “coolness” of the Mac but was persuaded into buying one by the family system manager. I have owned a MacBook Pro for a year now, and it is really great: it is effectively a Unix machine, which allows you a good control of the system still keeping the user-friendliness of the Mac, and it never crashed once. For some small-but-very-useful Windows-only programs which I needed for my work I installed a virtual machine.
Moreover, the price of a Mac is no longer higher than that of a PC with similar features.
And finally, it looks sooo cool and goes really well with my iPod… 🙂
